Investing in quality education

Established in 1877, Manitoba's university system is the oldest in Western Canada. In 1967, the system was expanded beyond the University of Manitoba, adding the University of Winnipeg and Brandon University. Similarly, College universitaire de Saint- Boniface, a French-language university, has continued to expand since the 1960s while at the same time maintaining its affiliation with the University of Manitoba.

Today, Manitoba's university system provides education for nearly 40,000 students in credit programs, and 10,000 students in non-credit continuing education programming.

The government of Manitoba has invested heavily in post-secondary education. Since 2000/01 funding has increased by 63.6 per cent, compared to 16 per cent during the 1990s, and tuition has been reduced by 10 per cent and has been frozen since. University education in Manitoba is an excellent choice for students as they prepare for their futures.

Brandon University
Located in the City of Brandon, Manitoba, Brandon University (BU) offers undergraduate programming in arts, science, education and music, and graduate programs in education, music and rural development. Recent additions to undergraduate programming include an applied disaster and emergency studies program leading to a major in arts or sciences, and the availability of four-year majors, minors and an honours degree in rural and community studies.

BU seeks to become the choice for all students who seek access to a personalized, quality education. Small classrooms, personalized instruction and low student-professor ratios enable students to gain the maximum benefit from the expertise of BU's teachers. Additionally, students have access to an extensive range of services, including guaranteed accommodation for out-of-town first-year students, counseling services, and services for students with disabilities, Aboriginal students, mature students, and a subsidized on-campus day care and junior kindergarten.

BU is proud that a large percentage of its graduates are admitted into graduate and/or professional schools where they have earned a reputation for being exceedingly well prepared.
