As the only university in Newfoundland and
Labrador, Memorial University is home to approximately
17,500 students across four campuses - each
one unique in location, specialization and reputation.
Approximately 82 per cent of Memorial students are
from Newfoundland anad Labrador, with 13 per cent
from other Canadian provinces and five per cent from
international locations.
As Atlantic Canada's largest comprehensive university,
Memorial offers more than 100 undergraduate and
graduate degree programs in arts, science, education,
fine arts, medicine, engineering and applied science,
business, music, maritime studies, technology and ocean
instrumentation, human kinetics and recreation, nursing,
pharmacy, resource management and social work.
Each of Memorial's four campuses is extraordinary
and unique. The St. John's campus, located in the province's
capital city, is Memorial's largest. Located on the
edge of the Atlantic Ocean, St. John's is a sophisticated,
cosmopolitan city with small-town warmth and safety.
St. John's is legendary for its entertainment. Restaurants
and night clubs line the cobblestones of George Street
with Irish, country, dance, rock, jazz, blues and traditional
music flooding onto the street. From biking,
hiking, boating and cross-country skiing to a diverse
array of arts and cultural events, there are activities to
suit all interests.
St. John's is also home to the Marine Institute,
dedicated to education, training, applied research and
industrial support for the ocean industries. Recognized
as one of the most respected centres of marine learning
and applied research in the world, it offers more than
20 industry-driven programs including bachelor and
master's degrees, post-graduate certificates, advanced
diplomas, diplomas and certificate programs. At the
Marine Institute, students have access to some of the
most high-tech training and applied research facilities
in the world.
Located on the province's west coast, Sir Wilfred
Grenfell College in Corner Brook offers an intimate
learning experience with special expertise in environmental
and fine arts programming. This small, spectacular
campus offers a personalized undergraduate
education in a realm of interdisciplinary experiences.
The low student-instructor ratio ensures that students
receive individual attention and ample opportunity to
get to know the faculty. The fine arts and environmental
programs are a testament to the beauty that surrounds
the campus. Artists find their inspiration in the landscape
and culture of the area. Scientists and researchers
strive to protect the area's natural wonder.
The Harlow campus is located in the quaint, historic
town of Old Harlow, Essex, UK. At Harlow, students
can study the international components of their chosen
program. The campus is also available as a base for
faculty members and graduate students conducting
research or further study in the UK.
The character of Memorial University is defined by
its place in Newfoundland and Labrador. Steeped in culture
and rich with vast natural beauty, Newfoundland
and Labrador is like no place on earth. To live and
learn in the province is to be enriched and transformed.
